Why Travel is the Smartest Thing You Can Do in 2024

How you see the world matters now more than ever.

Did anyone make a New Year’s resolution to spend more time on their digital devices? Yet isn’t that exactly what is happening? Studies show that smartphone addiction is at an all-time high and headed towards tipping the scale from living in real life. We ‘think’ we can’t function without our screen time.

Really?

It’s time to reclaim your brain. Enter Travel.

What you do with your life is determined by how you spend your time.

Travel rebalances our equilibrium.

Travel feeds the soul and is good for your health. Think of travel as a reset for your body and mind, getting you out of your daily routine and surroundings. Studies prove it boosts happiness, reduces stress and expands the mind.

Travel builds our power of perspective.

Exploring new destinations and cultures challenges your brain to think and grow. Each trip forms valuable impressions that make you uniquely you. Opening your mind and your senses enriches your life.

Travel authentically connects us in a way that no online community can.

You don’t have to travel far to appreciate new connections. I recently flew from NYC to Chicago for the holidays. Upon arrival, my Uber driver picked me up in the wrong spot after a frustrating runaround. Instead of simmering silently in the back seat glued to my phone, I took a deep breath and asked if he was a local. That question launched a hilarious conversation on city history, political gossip, and the best food in town.

Travel enhances our existing relationships and ability to celebrate diversity.

The ability to tell travel stories and share first-hand experiences of another culture strengthens existing personal bonds. It’s easier to put away digital devices when you have interesting things to talk about.

AI can’t tell us how to feel when traveling.

AI makes decisions based on algorithms that we simply accept. People make decisions based on authentic experience, instinct and emotion. No algorithm can tell you what it feels like on your first convertible ride cruising down the streets of Havana with the wind in your hair. Isn’t that what life is all about?

Happy New Year and happy, mindful travels.
